January 2017 Luncheon

casey_samsCasey Sams is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator with nearly 25 years of experience in her field. After spending time in the clinical setting, she moved into the outpatient nutrition arena. There, Casey worked with cardiac rehab programs, diabetes education programs, and through it all, weight management programs. Casey will tell you that even though she is an RD, she acts as more of a health coach.
A presenter both locally and nationally on topics relating to diabetes and weight management and program development, Casey has helped patients to lose weight and dramatically change the quality of their lives.  Additionally, she has held offices in local and statewide professional dietetic organizations over her career working on issues such as reimbursement for services for RDs. Casey co-authored a cookbook, “HEALTHY OPTIONS for everyday” with her friend, Chef Sheila Reese, and has developed educational modules for staff and other professionals. In the midst of all of this, she still managed to raise two children with her husband of more than 30 years, Andy.
Casey has come back to her roots and currently works for Mercy Health System of NWA coordinating their medical weight management program and providing nutrition counseling for Mercy’s surgical weight loss patients (Mercy Bariatrics).
